Dr Sylvia Earle: one of America’s great oceanographers & ocean explorers; recognized by the Library of Congress as a Living Legend, she was Time magazine’s first “hero for the planet” in 1998. In 1992 she founded Deep Ocean Exploration and Research (DOER), to design, operate, support and consult on manned & robotic sub sea systems. Dr Earle is presently Chairman of DOER and an Explorer in Residence at the National Geographic Society. She holds the world’s records in women’s solo diving and has walked untethered on the sea floor at a lower depth than any other human being. She is also an expert on the impact of oil spills, and was called upon to investigate the catastrophes of the Exxon Valdez & Mega Borg. Her numerous writings include an Atlas of the Ocean and children’s books about ocean life & reefs. Her most recent book is “The World is Blue: How Our Fate and the Ocean are One”
